Gimel Anderson, 21, was charged with falsely reporting an incident and interfering with an officer. He will appear in court on Aug. 15.
Police received a call shortly before 11:30 p.m., Monday, reporting a man armed with a gun at a bus stop on Richards Avenue. Several units responded to the area, and found a group of people standing at the bus stop. Police began questioning the individuals, and found that one of them, Anderson, had the same address as the person who had made the call.
Police checked Anderson's phone and saw that he had made a call to police headquarters, according to police reports. They also called the number that had first reported the man with the gun, and Anderson's phone began ringing, police said.
When questioned about why he had called in the report, police said that Anderson began laughing and told the officers, "You need to do your jobs." He was subsequently arrested.
