NORWALK, Conn. – A motorcyclist was killed in an early morning accident that closed parts of southbound I-95 for four hours Sunday, according to State Police.
Ines Franco, of New Jersey, who would have turned 30 in two days, was pronounced dead at the scene after a three-vehicle accident just north of Exit 16 in Norwalk. The police report says that Franco was traveling with two other motorcycles in the right shoulder after one of the motorcycles got a flat tire.
Police say that Franco's motorcycle was then hit from behind by a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Norwalk resident Matthew Smith and she was knocked off the bike landing about 400 feet south of the impact. The report says that in attempting to avoid hitting Franco, North Carolina resident Michelle Villegas, 43, driving a 2001 Volvo, veered left out of the center lane, but also hit Franco.
Franco was taken from the scene to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, and her family has been notified.
State Police detoured drivers around the accident, which occurred at about 3:40 a.m. Roadways were reopened at about 8 a.m.
State Police say the investigation was ongoing and ask that any witnesses contact State Police Troop G at (203) 696-2500.
