At about 5:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of Main Street and Locust Avenue on a report of an 83-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease who had wandered off.
The caller stated the man had been missing for 15 minutes before contacting the police. The man is a Project Lifesaver client and was wearing a transmitter. Officers trained to use Project Lifesaver tracking equipment responded, and the search started from where the man was last seen.
Capt. Andrew Walsh, Lt. Carol Ogrinc and Officer Kelly Coughlin searched the center of town for the missing man.
The tracking equipment was used and set to the frequency associated with the missing man's transmitter.
While searching the area, officers were able to locate the man on East Avenue. He would have been difficult to locate if not for the tracking equipment, police said.
The man was located at about 5:40 p.m., which was about 25 minutes after he was reported missing. The man was unharmed and was reunited with his wife.
