The police department will accept applications from interested Greenwich residents until April 22.

The seven-week academy will meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Greenwich Police Department's main headquarters.

A Saturday session, to be held from 8 a.m. to noon on May 16, is also required.

The Greenwich Citizen’s Police Academy will include opportunities to ride along with active law enforcement officers, including a marine training and ride-along on Long Island Sound.

Citizens who successfully complete the program will participate in a graduation ceremony to be held Thursday, June 15.

The program is free but is limited to 40 participants.

A criminal background check is a required part of the selection process.
