Greenwich Shooting Has Stamford Ties, Police Say

STAMFORD, Conn. — The two people shot at in Greenwich on Monday night were Stamford residents, Lt. Diedrich Hohn of Stamford Police Department said Tuesday.

The incident stemmed from shootings that took place this summer in the Custer Street area on Stamford’s East Side, which left several people injured and two men dead, Hohn said.

He believes the shootings stopped for a while for a number of reasons, including increased patrols in the area.

“There are still some bad feelings,” the lieutenant said.

The two Stamford men were not injured in the shooting Monday on Indian Field Road, a release from the Greenwich Police Department said. Hohn said he would not comment further on the shooting because it is Greenwich’s case. The two departments are working together on the investigation.

The Stamford incidents stem from a rivalry between former West Side residents and East Side residents, Hohn said. People from the West Side have moved across the city after several housing projects closed, he said.

Hohn does not believe the shooting on Lawn Avenue in Stamford on Sunday night, when three men fired about 12 shots, is related to the others. That victim was from Bridgeport and had a 1-year-old child with him, he said. Neither the man nor the baby were injured in the shooting.
