Heisze Chan, 36, of 109 Webbs Hill Road, was charged with first-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny. She posted $500 bond and was released to appear in state Superior Court of Stamford on April 22.

Police said a woman was chased out of the CVS on West Putnam Avenue who was suspected of stealing items, but she was able to evade capture.

An officer was sent to the scene but was unable to find her, police said.

However, about an hour later, a custodian at the Gateway Preschool at 2 Chapel St. called police and said he had opened a Dumpster and found a woman sitting in it. She told the man "that she was looking for a private place to urinate," police said.

The officer investigating the CVS theft put the two events together and searched the area, police said.

He found about $150 worth of CVS items in a nearby Dumpster but couldn't locate the suspect, police said. But he stayed in the area to see whether she popped up, police said.

Soon afterward, a taxi arrived, and the driver told the officer he was sent to pick up a woman at the location but couldn't find his fare, police said.

The officer conducted a further search and found a woman hiding among a pile of trash behind a Byram Terrace building, police said. She was taken into custody and charged, police said.
