The man entered the Sheep Hill Mobil gas station at about 8:30 p.m. and began acting in an odd fashion and began to disrobe, Greenwich police Lt. Kraig Gray said.

"At some point he left the establishment. As soon as he did, the worker locked the door and called police," Gray said.

"As soon as police arrived, they took a position around him and did their best to contain him," Gray said. The man was incoherent and erratic, telling police he had been drinking and taking drugs, he said.

"It became clear he was just unable to care for himself and at the right moment one of the officers tackled him," Gray said. The station is at 1129 East Putnam Ave/Route 1.

The man, an Old Greenwich resident, was taken to Greenwich Hospital for observation. Police did not identify the man and haven't pressed any charges against him.
