GREENWICH, Conn. -- Old Greenwich resident and WABC-TV meteorologist Bill Evans and his wife, Dana, both face third-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges after an incident in their home, according to Greenwich police.
Both Bill and Dana Evans turned themselves in to police after warrants were issued for their arrests in connection with an altercation that reportedly took place May 4, according to the police report.
Each was released on a promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 17, according to the police report.
Bill Evans' attorney, Philip Russell of Greenwich, released a statement regarding the charges:
"Bill was summoned to the Greenwich Police on the afternoon of June 13 and was released on a promise to return to court on Tuesday to answer charges of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct. The charges arose from an incident on May 4, 2013, in his home between Bill wife of 19 years, Dana.
"Bill and Dana are presently going through a difficult divorce. Our understanding is that on May 20, more than two weeks after an argument, Dana was advised by her divorce attorneys to file the complaint, which led to the police Investigation.
"Bill cooperated fully with the investigation and is continuing to cooperate with the police.
"Connecticut law requires that the police refer all reports of domestic arguments, no matter how minor, to the Superior Court, and the Greenwich Police actions Thursday were required by law.
"We expect that Bill will be exonerated and this case will be quickly forgotten. The Greenwich Police have informed us their investigation is continuing, and we will see this process through until Bill's name is cleared."
Dana Evans' attorney also released a statement regarding the charges: "After seeking counseling at a local domestic violence center, Dana reported the incident to the Greenwich Police.
"Obviously divorces can get emotional, and we expect Dana to be cleared of these charges in due time. The safety, privacy and welfare of her family continue to be her primary concern."
