The home invasion on Ridge Street in central Greenwich occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 29, said Greenwich police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.

The husband and wife had gone to bed in their second floor bedroom but had not locked the home’s exterior door nor activated the installed alarm system, Gray said in a statement.

At about 10:15 p.m., the couple a heard noise and were confronted by three black males wearing masks and carrying crowbars, police said. The couple was tied up, and the robbers made off with thousands of dollars of cash and jewelry from the family safe.

No one was injured during the robbery, police said.

The suspects were described as: black males wearing partial masks and dark clothing, athletic build, average height, and believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s.

“A home invasion robbery of this type is fortunately very rare in Greenwich. The violation of the sanctity of someone home is a significant crime and one which our department takes extremely seriously," said Capt. Mark Kordick, commander of the Greenwich Police Department's Detective Division. "This will be a priority investigation for the division.”
