A store employee recognized the man from a picture given to local retailers alerting them to someone making fraudulent purchases in the area, police said.
Greenwich police arrived and arrested the man, who was revealed to be Thomas J. Wilson of Gambrills, Md., after his fingerprints were taken.
Wilson was charged with five counts of second-degree forgery as well as one count of second-degree larceny, second-degree identity theft, interfering with an officer and criminal attempts of second-degree larceny.
He was held at Greenwich Police Headquarters on $50,000 bond. Wilson is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 20.
