GREENWICH, Conn. -- A former employee of a Cos Cob veterinary hospital was arrested after police said he was surprised by the business owner who discovered he had been in there after hours without permission and allegedly was using the business’ narcotics.

Andrew J. Tanner, 52, of 597 Pacific St., in Stamford, was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a $25,000 bond. His first scheduled court date is Friday in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police said the owner of the Post Road business had stopped by it around 11:30 p.m. Friday to check on it and discovered the door was unlocked. When she called out a man answered from inside the business, police said. When police arrived they discovered Tanner inside and alleged he had been using narcotics that were controlled by the business, according to police. Tanner had once worked at the business, police said.
