According to the police report, Carla Soto, 28, of Bridgeport, went into the diner with her grandmother and son for lunch. While in the diner, both the grandmother and Soto began arguing loudly, reportedly about custody, police said.

Several customers asked them to quiet down before a waitress went over to the table to ask them to be quieter, police said. Soto then became agitated and began throwing punches and attempting to scratch several staff members, police said. Then she fled to the Dunkin Donuts across the street, where officers found her shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

Police say Soto reported that several members of the wait staff had held her down and that she had been punched before being able to leave the diner.

Medical personnel arrived and treated a waitress who had bruising on one of her eyes and scratches on her neck, police said. She declined to be taken to the hospital. Soto was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital after complaining of neck and foot pain, police said.

After Soto was released from the hospital later that evening, police took her into custody and charged her with breach of peace and third-degree assault. She was released on $200 bond and is due in court on Aug. 13.
