GREENWICH, Conn. -- A convicted sexual predator from White Plains with a history of violence was arrested for trying to lure a 15-year-old Greenwich teen into his car by offering drugs, according to Greenwich Time.
John Altman, 69, who is being held on $150,000 bail, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, dispensing a controlled substance to a person under 18 and breach of peace. Providing drugs to young people before sexually assaulting them has been the ex-con's pattern in the past when he used a similar tactic in February with another Greenwich girl, and by drugging young women during the early 1990s before sexually assaulting them, according to Greenwich Time.
Altman, who worked part-time at a restaurant on River Road Extension, approached the girl several times telling her she was pretty and offering diet pills, which she accepted, Greenwich Time reported. The teen was afraid of Altman's actions and contacted police. Testing showed the pills were benzphetamine, which require a prescription, according to Greenwich Time.
