EASTON, Conn. – Easton’s tree warden is no longer on the job a week after town police charged him with disorderly conduct.
Richard McLaughlin, 54, of Easton, was issued a summons for disorderly conduct Feb. 21, police said. Officers were called to a disturbance at about 9:03 a.m. at the town highway department office, where McLaughlin was yelling at two town employees in the office, police said.
McLaughlin was upset that a tree was to be taken down and he didn’t feel the removal was necessary, police said. McLaughlin had left the office before officers arrived but returned while they were still there, police said.
First Selectman Thomas Herrman confirmed that McLaughlin has been relieved of his duties as tree warden but said it would be inappropriate to comment further.
McLaughlin is expected to appear Friday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
