Driver Killed In Crash On Merritt In Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – A motorist was killed Wednesday morning in a one-car accident in the southbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich, according to state police.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the car between exits 27 and 28, rolled down an embankment and went into a body of water.

The identity of the victim of the 7:30 a.m. crash was withheld pending notification of next of kin, State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said.

Authorities pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

Lanes on the Merritt were closed at various times Wednesday morning to accommodate the investigation, which snarled traffic in the area for several miles.
