STAMFORD — Michael DeMaio was sentenced to eight years in prison Wednesday for nearly beating his wife to death with a baseball bat in their Greenwich backcountry mansion in 2013, according to the Stamford Advocate .
In an appearance at Stamford Superior Court, DeMaio asked for his ex-wife’s forgiveness and wished her a speedy recovery, the Advocate said.
DeMaio pleaded guilty in January to attempted murder in a plea agreement that would cap his sentence at 10 years.
He was charged with attacking his wife with a baseball bat on Sept. 10, 2013, two weeks after she had told him of her plans to separate from him. DeMaio fractured his wife's skull and left her in a coma in the attack. She initially had not been expected to survive.
Judge Richard Comerford also gave DeMaio a 12-year suspended sentence and five of years probation and signed a 25-year criminal restraining order prohibiting DeMaio from contacting his former wife, the Advocate said.
