DARIEN, Conn. ? Former WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison, who was charged Sunday in an attack on his wife, had been accused of choking her in a fight earlier this year, according to Darien police.
Morrison's wife, CBS Money Watch anchor Ashley Morrison, accused her husband of choking her "until she almost passed out" on Jan. 14, according to police reports. She later retracted her statement.
Rob Morrison is facing charges of choking his wife and threatening her in an incident early Sunday. He has denied the charges and has been ordered to stay 100 feet from his wife. He has since resigned as an anchor for WCBS.
The couple were fighting in January because Ashley was upset over how much her husband had had to drink during a dinner a few nights earlier, according to police reports.
She told police that during the argument he began filming her with his phone. She tried to grab the phone from him and he threw her to the ground, she told police.
When she went to grab the portable house phone to call police, he allegedly threw his arm around her neck and began choking her, police said. She began hitting him in the head to get him to stop, according to police reports.
Rob Morrison was filming his wife to show her how she was acting, he told police. When she tried to grab his phone, it fell on the ground, police said. They both tried to grab it, at which point Ashley Morrison fell on the ground, he told police. She then grabbed the portable house phone and hit him in the head, he told police.
Both acknowledged they had been drinking during the incident, police said. Police said Ashley Morrison had several bruises on her arms.
Police contacted Ashley Morrison a few days later and told her they would be applying for an arrest warrant for her husband. She became upset, police said, and told them that she may have exaggerated her claims. She was unsure whether he had thrown her or she had fallen, police said. She also retracted her statement about being choked and said her husband may have inadvertently put his arm around her neck in an attempt to grab the house phone, police said.
No charges were filed in the incident.
