'All Clear' Given At Central Connecticut Following Lockdown

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Central Connecticut State University has given the "all clear" signal via its Twitter account following a lockdown that lasted at the school for more than three hours and led to at least one person in custody.

No one was hurt in the incident.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- One person is in custody following an incident at Central Connecticut State University that led to a lockdown at James Hall, according to the school's twitter account

Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day and the campus of Central Connecticut State University remains in "shelter mode," advising students to remain in place.

The school will hold a press conference regarding the matter at 4 p.m.

Update 2 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- No injuries have been reported in the incident that has put Central Connecticut State University on lockdown on Monday, New Britain Mayor Tim O'Brien said at a news conference.  

Police remained on the scene, and all people should follow instructions from officials, O'Brien said. 

He could provide no further information on the incident. The college remained on lockdown at 1:45 p.m. 

The Central Connecticut State University website has been pulled down and displays only the following message:

"1:46PM

Emergency Situation Remains.

Shelter in place. Police continue to search for suspicious person.

Further updates to come as they become available."

CCSU also said via Twitter at about 1:45 p.m. at ‏@CCSU: "When in your buildings, please stay away from windows, keep quiet, and put your cell phones on silent or vibrate."

CCSU also said via Twitter at about 2 p.m. at ‏@CCSU: "Reports of a suspicious person carrying a gun has been released. All on #CCSU campus need to stay indoors and stay put until further notice."

Students and staff were also advised via Twitter: "When in your buildings, please stay away from windows, keep quiet, and put your cell phones on silent or vibrate."

Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Central Connecticut State University in New Britain was under lockdown just after noon Monday and students were asked to seek shelter, according to the school's Twitter account.

"#CCSU stay indoors. Seek shelter. Police are on the scene. This is not a drill," the school tweeted at about 12:45 p.m.

A student on campus told The Daily Voice that a man was seen in James Hall with a gun and a knife.

Another student posted a Vine of police surrounding a campus building and others fleeing the scene.

The Central Connecticut State University website has been pulled down and displays only the following message:

"UPDATED - 1:29PM

Campus Emergency

Remain Inside buildings. Stay in place!

Stay away from Windows.

Police are on the Scene."

At 1:30 p.m., CCSU via Twitter at @CCSU said, "We are still on lock down. Police remain on the scene and are conducting a search in the James Hall area. #ccsu stay put."

James Hall is a residence hall on the campus.
