This year's Greenwich Reads Together (GRT), the fifth community-wide reading experience, saw an increase in participants from last year.
A total of 7,200 residents turned out for over 50 different events including: readings, expert panels, book discussions, storytelling, and film screenings sponsored by many town-based organizations.
In the Greenwich Public Schools, more than 6,500 students, parents, and faculty participated in Greenwich Reads Together in over 30 programs for all grade levels across the district – over 1,500 more than last year.
Greenwich became engaged in the exploration of a single book, "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. "Americanah" is a powerful, tender story of race and identity, unfolding across three continents.

Two companion books were selected, enabling younger children at the elementary and middle school level to participate as well. The essay contest, once again sponsored by the Greenwich Rotary Club, received 30 submissions.
Greenwich Alliance for Education collected hundreds of books donated by the community and distributed them to children at the Boys and Girls Club.
This community-building program would not be possible without the generous funding provided by The Friends of Greenwich Library.
I would also like to thank the Greenwich Reads Together Steering Committee which includes Greenwich Library, Greenwich Arts Council, Greenwich Historical Society, Greenwich Alliance for Education, Greenwich Pen Women, Greenwich Public and Independent Schools, Friends of Greenwich Library, Perrot Memorial Library, and YWCA of Greenwich.
