To the Editor:

This year, Fairfield has a rare opportunity to fill an open seat in the state Senate. With the departure of John McKinney, who has served the 28th District with distinction, it is time to elect a new leader -- one who has the legislative experience, a proven track record of getting results and a genuine commitment to our town.

That leader is Kim Fawcett, and I hope you will join me in voting for her on Nov. 4th as our new State Senator.

In my role as Fairfield First Selectman, I have had the privilege of working with Kim and getting to know her both as a friend and as a Fairfield state representative over the past eight years.

Kim reminds us that, as the late, great Congressman Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill said, "all politics is local." With Kim, I would amend that to "all politics is personal." The thousands of residents who have met Kim at their door, benefited from her advocacy, or called her with an issue would certainly concur. When constituents reach out with questions or problems, Kim listens and works persistently to get results.

Kim has also championed grants to upgrade our main streets, protect our open space and support small businesses working to grow. She understands her role as our community advocate and takes seriously her responsibility to be a strong voice in Hartford for our families, commuters and children. We need Kim Fawcett in the State Senate.
