She was born March 22, 1929, in Port Chester, to Domenick and Concetta (Oliveri) Santoro.
Her mother passed away when she was 2 and with four other siblings left in her father’s care she was sent to live with the Ballentoni family in Mamaroneck, where she received her schooling.
After high school graduation and attendance to secretarial school, she embarked on a career as secretary, which led her to Fort Totten in Bayside, Queens, where she worked in the defense department.
Eventually she found her way back to Port Chester and worked alongside her father to help operate his corner grocery store popular in the neighborhood on Grace Church Street, known as Santoro’s Market. She was an outgoing person whose presence in the store was an asset which drew customers from outside the neighborhood.
She was an athletic woman who looked forward to her early morning marathon swim at Rye Beach and made friends with all the 6 a.m. riders on the bus.
Never married, her favorite excuse was her freedom from household chores and the independence single life it offered.
She was predeceased by her brother, Rocco and sister-in-law, Frances, who lived in Greenwich, Conn.; and her sister, Josephine Shepherd, who lived in Redington Shores, Fla/
Surviving are her brother Alfred and his wife Josephine (Murgiano) in Gastonia, N.C.; brother-in-law Carl Shepherd, of Redington Shores, Fla.; a sister Rosina Santoro in New Rochelle; and several nieces and nephews.
