He was born on Aug. 28, 1930, in Fairfield. His father was a prominent attorney, active in state and local politics. Keating and his two older sisters lost their father in a tragic fall when he was just 6 years old. Still, he had a warm and happy childhood, spending summers developing his skills on the golf course of Brooklawn Country Club. He eventually became a 3-handicap golfer. He attended Fairfield Prep and Choate before graduating from Collegiate School in Manhattan in 1947. He then attended Brown University, where he earned a spot on the varsity golf team and graduated in 1952.

Following college, Keating headed to Wall Street and spent his entire professional career with several brokerage firms, including Oppenheimer, where he was head of its institutional sales division. He settled in Greenwich. He belonged to Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island. He also belonged to Greenwich Country Club and Country Club of Fairfield. He enjoyed skiing, skeet shooting and bowling. A longtime volunteer in Greenwich and Fairfield, he spent many years transporting patients to and from medical appointments for the American Cancer Society.

He is survived by his wife, Adele; three sons, John, William and Remington; three granddaughters; two sisters; and two stepdaughters.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 149 S. Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Horizons National, 120 Post Road W., Westport, CT 06880.
