Steve Stillerman, 72, Greenwich Equity Investor

GREENWICH, Conn. – Stephen "Steve" Harold Stillerman of Greenwich died July 3 after a 12-year battle with leukemia. He was 72.

Born Oct. 14, 1939, in Manhattan, he was the son of Dr. Milton and Ruth Stillerman. He attended McBurney High School in New York City and graduated from Boston University. His start in business at the Cohn-Hall-Marx Company led to a 25-year career in private equity investing.

Stillerman was the founder of Westfield Capital, an investment firm with interests in manufacturing and distribution businesses, including Candle Corporation of America, Delaware Valley Products, S & L Plastics, Ziff and National Home Products.

He also was a senior portfolio advisor at Main Street Resources in Westport. Stillerman was a member of the Young Presidents Organization and the World Presidents Organization. He was a longtime member of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich.

A 44-year resident of Greenwich, Stillerman also served as an adviser to the American Woman's Economic Development Corporation in New York City, a member of the Greenwich Board of Social Services, a mentor with Big Brothers of Greenwich and a business lecturer at Sacred Heart University and Skidmore College.

He was most proud of his service as member and chairman of the board of Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, where he currently was serving as chair emeritus.

Stillerman is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Lisa Stillerman and Nicole (Mark) Bates; a sister, Jane, and her partner, Bill; a granddaughter; and two nieces.

A private gathering for friends and family will be held. Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Silver Hill Hospital, 208 Valley Road, New Canaan, CT 06840. Blood donations also may be made to the American Red Cross.
