Stephen Warzoha, 89, Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. - Stephen T. Warzoha, Jr., of Greenwich died May 13. He was 89.

Warzoha was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Port Chester, N.Y., son of Stephen T. Warzoha Sr. and Ann Ziemba Warzoha. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII in the Southwestern Pacific Theater with the 5th Army Air Corps, 79th Airdrome A-20 light bomber unit.

Warzoha joined the Putnam Engine and Hose company no. 2 of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department attaining the rank of captain. He began his 40 year career at the Daily Item in Port Chester N.Y., retiring from the Gannett Newspaper family in 1992. He was a member of the Greenwich and Glenville community, including 17 years spent as a member of the Greenwich Special Police attaining the rank of corporal and was one of the first certified emergency medical technicians in the town of Greenwich. He was a parishioner of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church of Glenville.

Warzoha is survived by his wife, Claire (Gawroniak) Warzoha; children, Dan (Diane) Warzoha of Greenwich, Deborah and Kevin Lynch of Cortlandt Manor N.Y. and Robert and Denise Warzoha of Greenwich; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Joseph and Theodore.

Calling hours are Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Castiglione Funeral Home 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17 at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church 84 Sherwood Ave. in Greenwich. Interment will take place at St. Mary's cemetery in Greenwich.
