Stephen H. Clapp, 74, Of Cos Cob, Dean Emeritus At The Juilliard School

COS COB, Conn. - Stephen H. Clapp of Cos Cob died Jan. 26. He was 74.

Clapp was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Tallman, N.Y., to Robert and Dorothea Clapp. A graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory and The Juilliard School, he was a violinist.

Clapp was awarded the first Naumberg Chamber Music Award with the Beaux-Arts String Quartet and the Josef Gingold Prize of the Cleveland Society for Strings. He served on the music faculty of George Peabody College for Teachers and Blair Academy in Nashville, Tenn.; the Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colo.; The University of Texas at Austin, Texas; Oberlin College Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio; and The Juilliard School, New York City. He was a lay minister at Christ Church in Greenwich, St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford, and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

Clapp is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Amy Clapp Dye (Martin); sons, Peter and Andrew Clapp; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Clapp.

A funeral service of Holy Communion will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 628 Main St., Stamford.
