Sidney Singer, 81, Longtime Greenwich and Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Sidney Singer, 81, a longtime Greenwich and Stamford resident passed peacefully at his home with his devoted wife and darling daughters by his side,  Tuesday, July 28.

Singer was born in Toronto, Canada, the son of the late Jennie & Louis Singer.

An exceptionally intelligent man, he received an undergraduate degree in aeronautical engineering at University of Toronto and PHD at Johns Hopkins in industrial engineering/operations research.

He was appointed to the faculty at the Technological Institute at Northwestern University. Subsequently, he had staff and planning positions with International Minerals & Chemicals Company, Dunlap & Associates, CTI, and WR Grace & Company. Eventually, he founded and became president of Singer & Associates, focusing on applications of computer-aided planning models.

He was an avid sailor, who raced Thistles and Flying Scots, a member of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club and enjoyed tennis and skiing.

Singer is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and beloved daughters, Maia Singer Clewley and husband Kevin of Del Mar, Calif., Robin Singer and husband Timothy Skedzuhn of Waterbury, Vt., and Lori Singer of Milford. He also is survived by four beloved grandsons, Matthew and Daniel Clewley and Zachary and Jacob Skedzuhn.

He was predeceased by his parents Jennie and Louis Singer and his brother Irwin Singer.

Funeral services at Temple Beth El will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by burial at Beth El Cemetery. Shiva services are at 5 p.m. Thursday with a minyan service at 7:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CCFA (Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, Johns Hopkins University and Greenwich Study Group Inc.(Chavurat Deevray Torah).
