Sheila Peabody Abbett, 82, Former Longtime Greenwich Resident

NAPLES, Fla. - Sheila Peabody Abbett, "Baba", died June 1. She was 82.

Abbett was born Jan. 16, 1931, to Sheldon and Emma Peabody Abbett, of Greenwich. She was a longtime resident of Greenwich and moved full-time to Naples in her later years. She was a lifer at Greenwich Academy, and after graduating in 1949, worked closely with her father in real estate in Greenwich.

She held over eight golf championships over a two decade period at the Greenwich Country Club including the Converse and Governor's  Tournaments. Along with her parents, she created the Greenwich townwide Pet Show, which ran in Greenwich for over 50 years. She volunteered at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the Corkscrew Sanctuary Audubon Center, both of Naples.

Abbett is survived by her family, BK, John, Johnny, Amanda, Win, Ben and Lily Bates of Greenwich, Conn.; and friends and caretakers.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Church, with a reception immediately following at the Greenwich Country Club.
