Seymour Polansky, 90, Former Greenwich WWII Vet

GREENWICH, Conn. – Seymour Polansky, a former longtime Greenwich resident, died Jan. 30 surrounded by family. He was 90.

He was born Jan. 1, 1923, in New York City to Julius and Hilda Polansky. He graduated from Boys High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and earned a bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College and a Ph.D. from Purdue University.

Polansky worked as a chemist in private industry for many years before teaching organic chemistry at the New York Institute of Technology. A veteran of World War II, he served as a member of the Signal Corps in the Philippines.

He enjoyed swimming at Tod's Point and later at the Tully Center in Stamford.

Polansky is survived by three children, Marcia, Larry and Jesse Polansky; and four grandchildren, Kevin Chin, Jay Polansky, Juni Polansky and Ruby Polansky.

Burial will be private. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Stamford is handling arrangements.
