Samuel Yonce, 81, Formerly Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Samuel McClay Yonce, a former Greenwich resident, died Sept. 18 in Greenwich due to complications from surgery. He was 81.

Born Jan. 30, 1931, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Stanley Logan Yonce and Cora McClay Yonce. His sister, Mary Martha Yonce, predeceased him at a young age. Growing up in Lake Forest, Ill., and New York City, Yonce attended Lake Forest Country Day School and Buckley School.

He graduated from St. Paul's School in 1949 and Yale University in 1954, where he played varsity ice hockey and was a member of the fencing club. He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed a 35-year career in investment securities.

Yonce previously worked for First Boston, A.G. Becker, Rotan Mosle and L.P Cook & Co. A resident of Boca Grande, Fla., he was an active member of the Round Hill Club, Fishers Island Club, Gasparilla Golf Club, Lemon Bay Golf Club, U.S. Seniors' Golf Association, Father and Son Golf Association and the Yale Club of New York.

An avid athlete and outdoorsman, he enjoyed playing sports with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lizora Miller Yonce; three children, S. McClay (Ginny) Yonce Jr., Logan Hanes Yonce and Clifford Miller (Susan) Yonce; and four grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Church in Greenwich.
