Rowdy Roddy Piper, Star Of Stamford's WWE, Dies At 61

STAMFORD, Conn. —  Roderick George Toombs, better known as the WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper — has died at the age of 61, the Stamford-based WWE announced on its website.

“Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE, beloved by millions of fans around the world,” WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon said in a statement. “I extend my deepest condolences to his family.”

Piper died at his home in Hollywood, Calif., overnight Thursday of natural causes, according to NBC News.

After joining the WWE in 1984, Piper became a star and was known for his on-air battles and rivalry with Hulk Hogan, according to NBC News.
