Rose M. Franco, 85, Lifelong Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. - Rose M. Franco, a lifelong Greenwich resident died Friday, April 19. She was 85.

Franco was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Greenwich, daughter of Frank and Theresa Franco. She graduated from the original Greenwich High School, now Town Hall, and the College of New Rochelle, where she spent her senior year studying at The Sorbonne in Paris, France. Later she received a master of arts degree from Teachers College of Columbia University.

In her more than 50-year career, Franco held a range of administrative positions at various institutions. First, she worked with the United Nations, then with the book publishing houses of HarperCollins and W.W. Norton and Co.

Franco served as president of the Ladies Guild, as lector and as Eucharistic minister. She was a longtime member of the Greenwich Council of Catholic Women. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross in Greenwich.

Franco is survived by, her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Franco; her brother-in-law, Richard F. Kriskey; and many nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Michael F. Franco; sister, Regina Franco Kriskey; and niece, Christine Franco.

A memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich.
