Raymond Zrike, 90, Greenwich WWII Veteran, Businessman

GREENWICH, Conn. – Raymond. W. Zrike, Sr., 90, of Greenwich, died Dec. 15 at Greenwich Hospital. According to his family, he died of complications related to pneumonia.

Born July 27, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of Salim K. Zrike and Valentine Hamad Zrike. Zrike graduated from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School.

During World War II he served as a lieutenant, junior grade, in the supply corps of the Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Va., and on the USS Midway.

He joined the Royal Worcester Porcelain Co. in 1946, becoming its president in 1962. In 1975 he founded Kosta Boda USA Ltd. to represent the Swedish glass company in the United States and served as its president until his retirement in 1983.

That same year he founded The Zrike Company, Inc., producers and distributors of dinnerware and glassware, in Oakland, N.J. During his career he was active in many industry organizations and served as president of the China, Glass and Giftware Board of Trade and as chairman of the Association of British Ceramic Importers.

In 1948, he married Jean Zaloom. She died in 2011.

He is survived by four children: Stephen of Norfolk, Mass., Raymond Jr. of Houston, Texas, Joanne Huntley of Westport, Conn., and David of Ridgewood, N.J.; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild

He is also survived by his brother, Robert, of Grantham, N.H. and Juno Beach, Fla.
