GREENWICH, Conn. - R. Power Fraser Jr. of Greenwich died Wednesday, July 23. He was 90.
Fraser was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Manchester-By-The-Sea, Mass., to R. Power and Beatrice Jones Fraser. He attended Story High School in Manchester. After high school, he went on to Boston College until World War II broke out. During World War II, he served as a 1st Lt. navigator in the 490th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force stationed in East Anglia, England.
After the war, he continued his education at Boston College and then at Harvard Business School. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in business that spanned 40 years as senior vice president at GAF Corporation, president of the American Felt Co., president of the Ozalid Corp. and member of the Board of Directors of Plastic Suppliers, Inc.
A longtime Greenwich resident, he was a Greenwich Country Club where he was a member since 1982. He served on the Board of Governors of GCC and was an honorary member of the Connecticut State Golf Association.
Fraser is survived by his sons, Peter and Power; daughter-in-law, Liz; and three grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife Arleen; and daughter, Jamie.
Calling hours are Tuesday, 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 469 North St., Greenwich. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brunswick School, 100 Maher Avenue, Greenwich.
