Peter A. Ohring, 55, Former Greenwich Resident

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Peter A. Ohring of New Fairfield died Saturday, Nov. 9. He was 55.

Ohring was born April 13, 1958, in Boston, Mass., son of George and Jean (Oxman) Ohring of College Park, Md. He attended Boston schools, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel where he received his degrees in mathematics and physics. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Colorado and his post doctorate degrees and fellowships from Louisiana State University, Bowdoin College and SUNY-Albany. He was a professor of mathematics, computer science and new media at SUNY-Purchase.

A resident of New Fairfield for the past 19 years coming from Greenwich, he was a member of the New Fairfield Board of Education and a member and co-vice president of Congregation B’Nai Israel of Danbury.

Ohring is survived by his wife, Mary (Shostak) Ohring; parents; son, Isaac Ohring; daughter, Rachel Ohring both of New Fairfield; brothers, Marshall Ohring (Eva) of Hollywood, Fa., and Richard Ohring of Tel Aviv, Israel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 11:30 a.m. in Congregation B’Nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury with Rabbi Nelly Altenburger officiating. Burial will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Miry Brook Road, Danbury. The family will observe Shiva Tuesday, Nov. 12, Wednesday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Nov. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 16 Mac Bean Drive, New Fairfield with Minyan at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m.
