Meredith Davidson Avery, 86, Of Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Conn. -- Meredith Davidson Avery, of Riverside, died Monday, June 8, 2015. She was 86 years old.

She was born Sept. 3, 1928, in New Rochelle, N.Y. Avery graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in religion in 1950. Her first job was with Burson-Marstellar in New York City. Later, she worked for the Town of Greenwich Public Health Service Department, until she retired in the mid-1990s. 

Avery was a member of PEO, an international philanthropic organization that supports Berea College in Appalachia. She also was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford for more than 60 years. 

She is survived by her son, Hal Avery and his wife, Karin; her two daughters, Martha Avery Bates and her husband, Tom; Elizabeth Hill Avery and her husband, Alex Bullock; and four grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother and his wife, as well as her sister and her husband. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at First Presbyterian Church of Stamford,  1101 Bedford St. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905.
