Mary 'Dolly' Rafterty, 102, Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Mary Josephine "Dolly" Rafferty died Saturday, Dec. 20, at the age of 102.

Rafferty was born on March 2, 1912, in Graiguecullen, Carlow, Ireland. She had six sisters and a brother, all of whom predeceased her.

After being educated at the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy, she and her sister Patricia went to nursing school at St. James Hospital in Leeds, England, earning her license in general nursing and midwifery. She worked in England until 1955, when she came to the U.S.

She and three sisters settled in Queens, working at Elmhurst General Hospital. Rafferty retired in 1964 and moved to Greenwich to care for her two sisters through their final illnesses.

In her 90s, she enjoyed the activities at the Greenwich Senior Center. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish for 50 years.

Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
