Marie Kolok, 95, Port Chester Native

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Marie Donatella Kolok (Rocco), 95, a resident of Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, Rhode Island, died Thursday, July 2.

Kolok, a graduate of Port Chester High School, Port Chester, New York, was born May 12, 1920. She met her husband, William Kolok at Byram Shore, Greenwich, Connecticut, where they enjoyed each other’s company, socializing with friends, boating and fishing.

During the early part of World War II, she worked in a munitions factory. During the latter stages of the war she followed her fiancé, a coxswain in the United States Naval Construction Forces (the Seabees), to California, where they were married in Ventura May 1, 1943. When the war ended, they returned to Byram, established themselves, bought a house and raised a family.

She worked at various jobs, including her last at Karavan Trading and Import Company in Port Chester, New York. She also maintained a warm and inviting household for her husband, children their families and guests. She continued to volunteer long after retirement, sewing blankets and hats for veterans. She and her husband believed in the power of personal industry and they maintained an independent lifestyle well into their early 90s. They moved to Portsmouth Rhode Island in 2004 to be closer to family.

She was preceded in death by her life partner and husband, William, who died May 18, 2009, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

She is survived by four children, Janet (Skinner), William, David and Alan; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She will be interred alongside her husband in a private ceremony at the Greenwood Cemetery in Rye, New York.
