Kathryn Fries, 85, Former Mt. Pleasant Town Clerk

THORNWOOD, N.Y. - Kathryn 'Kitty' Fries, a longtime resident of Thornwood, died March 20. She was 85.

Fries was born Oct. 22, 1927, daughter of Thomas Mahon and Anastasia Barnwell Mahon in Oyster Bay, N.Y.

She was a graduate of St. Mary's of the Assumption, in Katonah, and the New York Secretarial and Finishing School in New York City. She worked as a telephone operator for AT&T, and a secretary for the Mount Pleasant Highway Department. She was elected Town Clerk for the Town of Mount Pleasant, and served as treasurer for the Thornwood Fire District. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Thornwood Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Both Fries and her husband were members of the fire department.

Fries is survived by her sister, Mary (Herb) of Ramona, Calif.; daughters, Jan (Eddie) Street of Boykins, Va., Diane Lorenz of Ossining and Barbara (Jay) Hanecak of Halfmoon; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10 a.m., in Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville, N.Y. Burial to follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thornwood Fire Dept.
