Joseph Podgurski, 90, Worked For Town Of Greenwich; World War II Vet

GREENWICH, Conn. - Joseph "Jake" Podgurski of Greenwich died Sunday, Dec. 1. He was 90.

Podgurski was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Greenwich, son of Michael and Agnes Podgurski of Cos Cob. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1942, and served in the U.S. Navy as a coxswain aboard merchant ships in World War II. Following his service, he was employed by the Town of Greenwich for four decades and was a longtime parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside.

Podgurski is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters, Therese, Linda, Paulette, Christine, Mary, and Carolyn; sons, Jack and David, all of whom reside in Connecticut; three grandsons. He was predeceased by his siblings, Stan, Michael and Ann.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greenwich's Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, at 31 Arch St. A Mass and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at St. Catherine of Siena in Riverside. Interment will be private.
