Joseph Pellicano, 87, Longtime Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. – Joseph James Pellicano, a former Greenwich resident, died Sept. 3 in Ocala, Fla., after a brief battle with cancer. He was 87.

He was born June 13, 1925 to Demetrio and Serafina Ambrogio Pellicano. He lived in Greenwich most of his life before moving to Ocala in 2002 to be closer to his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Pia Pellicano.

Pellicano attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1943. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He worked as a compositor in the printing department at Conde Nast in Old Greenwich and Meredith Publishing in West Haven for many years.

He then went to work for the Greenwich Board of Education at Eastern Junior High School for 11 years, until his retirement. Pellicano was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years. He was affiliated with the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Redman. Pellicano served as an usher at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwich for more than 50 years.

Pellicano is survived by his brother, Fred (Pia) Pellicano of Ocala; four nieces and a nephew.

The wake will be private. Family and friends may call at 10 a.m. Saturday at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A funeral Mass will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Greenwich. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.
