Joseph A. Romeo, 91, Former Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. - Joseph 'Joe' Anthony Romeo, formerly of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Greenwich, died Sept. 27. He was 91.

Romeo was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Greenwich, to Giovanni and Maria Rosa Romeo of Reggio-Calabria, Italy. He graduated from Greenwich High School and The American Art School, New York City. He served in the U.S. Army Eleventh Tactical Air Command Squadron from 1942 to 1945 as a communication specialist. He played drums for his band the 'Don Rogers Trio' swing band, was a commercial artist/illustrator, assistant art director, NY Graphic Society; owner/operator, J. A. Romeo Lawn Mower and Bicycle Shop. He and his wife operated The Art Shop in Cocoa Beach, Fla., in 1978 until their retirement in 2004. He was a life member of the VFW post 8896, East Berlin, Pa., and The American Legion, Post 400, Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Romeo is survived by his wife, Ann Romeo; daughters, Toni (Chris) Burns, Hanover, Pa..; JoAnn (Mark) Tinney, Freeman, Mo., Donna Romeo (Celso) Martinez, McKinney, Texas.; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Minerva Facchin, Dr. Anthony Romeo, DDS, and Ben Romeo.

A funeral will be held next June at Arlington National Cemetery.
