John Reeve Bermingham, 88, Of New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - John Reeve Bermingham of New Canaan, formerly of Greenwich, died Sept. 21. He was 88.

Bermingham was born Jan. 22, 1926, to Luke V. Bermingham and Leslie W. Reeve both of Oyster Bay, N.Y. and Mattituck, N.Y. He graduated from Mattituck High School in 1942, and entered the U.S. Navy where he attended Cornell University for a naval intelligence program. He went on to serve in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Essex aircraft carrier and completed his tour of duty in the South Pacific in 1948.

Upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he entered Princeton University. He remained an alumnus throughout his life and last attended his 65th reunion.

After his marriage he resided with his family in Greenwich for 43 years ultimately settling in New Canaan.

Bermingham is survived by his wife, Janet Maul Bermingham, of New Canaan; children, Leslie B. Madden of New Canaan, John R. Bermingham, Jr. of Windsor Locks, Geoffrey B.Bermingham also of New Canaan; and five grandchildren.

A private funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Notes of condolence for Janet Bermingham can be sent to Waveny Care Center, 3 Farm Road New Canaan, Ct. 06840.
