John J. Martin, 83, Of Greenwich, Retired Lone Star Industries Executive

GREENWICH, Conn. - John J. Martin of Greenwich died Sunday, Oct. 5. He was 83.

Martin was born July 11, 1931, in New York City. He was a longtime resident of Greenwich and a longtime employee of Lone Star Industries in Greenwich and Stamford, from which he retired in 1996 as VP, secretary and general counsel. A 1967 graduate of NYU law school, he was a member of the New York, and Connecticut bars and admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to joining Lone Star, he was an attorney for the former law firm Naylon, Arrenson, Huber & Magill (NYC) and Bangor Punta Corporation, as assistant secretary and general counsel, in Greenwich. Shortly after graduating high school from St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx (1949), he was on duty during the Korean War (1951 to 1953). He was a longtime member of Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich.

Martin is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, John Jr. (Maureen) of Fairfield, Robert (partner, Bob) of Bridgeport and Paul of NYC.; daughter, Kieran (William) of Wyckoff, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 469 North St., Greenwich (www.stmichaelgreenwich.com).
