GREENWICH, Conn. - Joan S. Murphy of Greenwich died Wednesday, Dec. 19. She was 85.
Murphy was born Nov. 15, 1928, in New York City, to Albert and Nora Sternecker, she had been a long time resident of Greenwich. She managed the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop and later volunteered at the Old Greenwich Rummage Room that benefits many local organizations. She was also a longtime member of the Innis Arden Golf Club and a member of the Women's Club of Greenwich.
Murphy is survived by her sister, Claire Sternecker; children, Robert Long, Patricia Long Harris, Joanne Farrell and John Long; six grandchildren; and step children, Jerry Murphy, Jane Murphy, Ken Murphy, Nancy Murphy and Dan Murphy. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Dr. John Murphy.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at St. Mary's Church, 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich with burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Club of Greenwich.
