GREENWICH, Conn. Irene G. Pennella of the Riverside section of Greenwich died Oct. 20. She was 91.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Greenwich, to Joseph G. and Alfreda Dytrych Glinka. She was married to Charles W. Pennella Sr., who died April 13, 2010. In addition to raising her family, Pennella held a hairdressing license and was employed by Electrolux Corp. in Old Greenwich.
She also worked in the parishes of St. Agnes and St. Catherine of Siena and loved cooking, baking and gardening. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Pennella is survived by a daughter, Joanne (Jon) Smardin; two sons, Peter (Jackie) and Charles; a sister, Frances Manzella; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Charlene Pennella; two sisters, Margaret Locke and Mary Glinka; and three brothers, Adam, Henry and William Glinka.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.
