Ian Q. Whittall, 91, Of Greenwich, Worked For Celanese Corporation

GREENWICH, Conn. - Ian Quentin Whittall of Greenwich died Oct. 15. He was 91.

Whittall was born Jan. 27, 1923, on the Island of Malta. After a childhood in Izmir, Turkey, he went to study in England. During World War II he was a tank commander in the British 7th Armoured Division (the"Desert Rats") in North Africa as well as the Allied invasion of Italy. At the end of the war Ian worked in a family shipping business in Istanbul, Turkey. After his marriage he moved to Greenwich in 1955 and worked in New York City and South and Central America for the Celanese Corporation. He was a member of the Belle Haven Club for 47 years. He was a volunteer at Greenwich Hospital.

Whittall is survived by his wife, Lisa; sons, Eric of Guilford and Eliot of Miami Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; and a large extended family in England.

A memorial service for Whittall will be held at a later date.
