Helen Lane, 89, Lifelong Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. – Helen Kirhoffer Lane, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, died July 14. She was 89.

Lane was born June 12, 1923, to Helen and John B. Kirhoffer. She worked as a bookkeeper for a plumbing supplies company. A lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, she had a passion for poetry. She also loved animals and a good baseball game. Lane spent many afternoons watching her husband, Ed, play baseball in Cos Cob. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F. Lane; and two brothers, John Henry Kirhoffer and William B. Kirhoffer. She is survived by three nieces, Rebecca Kirhoffer, of Greenwich, Nancy Kirhoffer, of Los Angeles, and Betsy Shay, of Darien; two nephews, William Kirhoffer, of Oxford, Conn., and John B. Kirhoffer, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; and a stepson, Edward Lane, of Cos Cob. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Greenwich. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fred D. Knapp and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.
