SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Greta R. Pofcher, formerly of Greenwich, died Saturday, Dec. 21. She was 82.
Pofcher was a 1953 graduate of Cornell University, and held a master's from Norwalk Community College in Archaeology. She worked as an international flight attendant with Pan American World Airways. After living in Greenwich, Conn., for more than 30 years, she made her new residence in San Francisco, Calif., in the mid 2000's.
She was a supporter and advocate for many community organizations in both Greenwich and San Francisco. In Greenwich, she was a board member and supporter of The Bruce Museum of Arts and Science and involved in the Stanwich Congregational Church. She was a volunteer teacher of archaeology in the Greenwich school systems for many years. In San Francisco, she was a supporter of the de Young and the Legion of Honor museums as well as the San Francisco Ballet.
Pofcher is survived by her son, Scott Pofcher (Sally) of Wilmette, Ill.; daughter, Janet Johnson (Gunnar) of Plymouth, Minn.; six grandchildren; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Munroe.
A memorial service will be held in San Francisco in January.
