Greenwich's Sylvia Aboud, 81, Artist, Clothing Designer, Pattern Maker

GREENWICH, Conn. - Sylvia Aboud, a resident of Greenwich, died Dec. 30. She was 81.

Aboud was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1932, to Esther Strasner and Jack Rabkin. She graduated from Prospect Heights High School in 1950 and Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T), Class of 54.

She was an artist as well as a clothing designer and pattern maker. She worked for Sleep-Ease Pajama Co. before becoming a homemaker in Riverdale, N.Y., where she lived for most of her life. In 1974, she returned to work at NuVenture Maternities as a designer, pattern maker and production manager until her retirement in 1999. She volunteered at the Spuyten Duyvil Public Library in Riverdale.

Aboud is survived by her daughters, Karen Hauben (Jason) of Darien and Julie Aboud of La Jolla, Calif.; three grandchildren; brothers, Eddie, Dennis and Alan Strasner; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Aboud.

Calling hours and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at The Nathaniel Witherell, 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich.
