Geoffrey J. Winters, 71, Former Greenwich Resident

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Geoffrey J. Winters of Queensbury, formerly of Greenwich, Conn., died Jan. 7. He was 71.

Winters was born Dec. 9, 1942, in Brooklyn to Dorothy J. Stevens Winters and James J. Winters. He moved to Greenwich with his parents when he was young.

He graduated from The Brunswick School in Greenwich and went on to attend The New Hampton School, graduating in 1962. After New Hampton, he attended the Sorbonne, in Paris, majoring in European economics, and The George Washington University, majoring in economics. Later, he went on to attend the New York Institute of Finance. He had a long career on Wall Street.

While in college, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was discharged as lance corporal in May 1972. After service, he started on Wall Street and later went on to become managing director for some of the big Wall Street Investment houses, such as Lehman Brothers, Paine Webber and Grunthal & Co. After a long stretch on Wall Street he decided to fund a company named Ultraguard Corp.

He was a member of The Belle Haven Club of Greenwich, and the Glens Falls Tennis & Swim Club and was a past longstanding member of the Camp Fire Club of America, Christ Church of Greenwich and The First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls. For many years he was a resident of Greenwich, but in the past few years he had retired to Queensbury with his wife and children.

Winters is survived by his wife, Tia R. Winters, of Queensbury; children, Alexandra R. Winters, and Alyssa J. Winters; daughter from first marriage, Christina Winters Blaustein (Howard) of New York City; first wife, Janie Larkin Miller of Greenwich and Charleston, S.C.; second wife, Dana Monro Winters of Darien, Conn.; and a grandchild and several cousins.

Funeral services were privately held Thursday, Jan. 16, at Christ Church in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Winters Family Educational Trust Fund for Alexandra and Alyssa Winters (ages 11 and 13).
